7 free good mobile apps that every traveler should know about for exploring Corfu.

Google Maps is a great tool for travellers and provides lots of benefits to make your journeys easier. The maps are extremely comprehensive and you will find pretty much every destination, road and neighbourhood from around Corfu. A good benefit to Google maps is that you can save locations and this will sync between your desktop and mobile devices. That’s assuming you’re are logged into the same Google account. Street view allows you to look around in a 360° mode, almost as if you are there. This is available for a large number of destinations around Corfu and when using it you can get an idea of an area, or you can try and find where you need to go visually before you even arrive.


Maps.me (formerly known as MapsWithMe) are offline maps that works with no Wi-Fi or cellular internet. All it needs is your phone’s GPS. It gets its data from OpenStreetMap, an open source website. For international travellers that won’t have internet or cell service, your location will still be visible on the map as GPS function on your smartphone does not require cell signal to work. When you select a certain area, maps.me will ask you to download the corresponding maps to see the detailed map. Once that process is finished you can use it offline.


Flightradar24 is a global flight tracking internet-based service that shows real-time commercial aircraft flight tracking information on a map. It includes flight tracking information, origins and destinations, flight numbers, aircraft types, positions, altitudes, headings and speeds.


MarineTraffic is an open, community-based project, which provides real-time information on the movements of ships and the current location of ships in harbours and ports. Vessel locations are shown on a map background. MarineTraffic was originally developed as an academic project at the University of the Aegean in Greece.


SunCalc.org is an online application that shows the movement of the sun and sunlight phases during the given day at the given location. Sunrise or sunset watching is better when you know where the Sun is gonna be.


MoonCalc.org shows information relating to the position, age, phase, orientation, appearance and visibility of the moon for any given date, time and location on earth.


Star Walk 2 is a great astronomy guide to explore the night sky, identify stars, constellations, planets and other celestial bodies. It has a compass that tells you where north. If you enjoy astronomy, this application helps to determine the exact position of celestial objects in the sky above. All you need to do is to point your device to the sky.
